Soft skills are interpersonal skills such as the ability to communicate well with other people and to work in a team. (Communicating, conflict management, human relations, making presentations, negotiating, team building, and other such ability, defined in terms of expected outcomes and not as a specific method or technique such as statistical analysis.)
Hard skills. A technical skill, not one that is interpersonal. Specific, teachable abilities that may be required in a given context, such as a job or university application. Examples of hard skills include facility with spreadsheets, typing,proficiency with software applications, operating machinery, software development, speaking a foreign language, calculus

Wikipedia: Soft skills is a sociological term relating to a person’s “EQ” (Emotional Intelligence Quotient), the cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness, and optimism that characterize relationships with other people. Soft skills complement hard skills (part of a person’s IQ), which are the occupational requirements of a job and many other activities.

Soft skills are personal attributes that enhance an individual’s interactions, job performance and career prospects. It’s often said that hard skills will get you an interview but you need soft skills to get (and keep) the job

 

Banyak sekali ketrampilan personal yang dapat dikategorikan sebagai soft skills, misalnya yaitu:

1. Kemampuan berkomunikasi secara efektif
2. Mempunyai sistem nilai dan perilaku yang positif/sesuai dengan norma masyarakat
3. Mempunyai daya inovasi dan kreativitas
4. Berpikir analitis
5. Fleksibel
6. Siap menghadapi perubahan (mampu beradaptasi dengan segala situasi)
7. Mempunyai ketrampilan interpersonal yang baik
8. Mempunyai ketrampilan negosiasi yang baik
9. Mempunyai ketrampilan persuasi (mempengaruhi orang lain)
10. Mampu mengelola waktu secara baik
11. Mampu menyelesaikan permasalahan dengan baik
12. Mempunyai sifat kepemimpinan dan dapat bekerja sama sebagai tim

Mengapa seseorang, tidak hanya seorang profesional, memerlukan soft skills? Jawabannya adalah:

1. Agar dapat menjalani karirnya dengan baik
2. Dapat bekerja sama dan mengelola bawahan dengan baik
3. Menjadi manajer yang baik
4. Untuk mencapai sasaran yang strategis
5. Menjadi pribadi yang lebih menarik

Mutlak seseorang memiliki soft skills karena soft skills ditambah dengan hard skills akan menghasilkan core skills atau ketrampilan inti/terpenting yang diperlukan seseorang untuk sukses dalam karir dan kehidupan.
